 KARMA

Karma causes happiness, karma causes pain

Karma is what causes us to become a child again

We shy away in fear of it, or run to it with greed

It all depends upon the nature of each solitary deed.

Our karma it envelops us - our 'evils' and our merits

But it is nothing but ourselves - it is what we each inherit

It's the ghost that comes to haunt us, from previous time gone by

Arcing 'round to greet us - causing plans to go awry.

It has its own momentum, depending upon the deed

Not bringing what we want, so much, but more so what we need

We may well think the worst of it - our dread of it may grow

But have faith that nought befalls us, except that which we sow.

And so as events unfold in life, don't ponder on the morrow

Simply let go and accept it all - the joy, the pain, the sorrow

For karma is the Teacher that eventually sets us free

Separate and alone no more, but at one within life's Great Sea.

At April '94...

I wrote this poem during my Spiritual journey through Buddhism - after my meditation teacher, Dr Sarah Shaw PhD, suggested that i write something on the theme of 'fourness' - a poem that was originally titled 'Four Of Four' btw...
